Lorenzo Carrer is is licensed United States Coast Guard (USCG) Master Near Coastal with Sailing endorsement and American Sailing Association (ASA) instructor. He is a native Italian sailor and Chicago resident with over 30 years sailing experience, including the Mediterranean sea, ocean passages in the Gulf of Mexico, Atlantic Coast, Bahamas and Caribbean Sea. He sailed SOLO in the North Atlantic and four of the great lakes: Ontario, Erie, Huron and Michigan.
Born in Milan, our captain learned to sail when he was a teenager and successfully mastered his skills by sailing the warm blue waters off the coast of Cinqueterre, Corsica, and Tuscany.
Licensed as a captain in Europe in 1997, he cruised the most beautiful and challenging areas of the Mediterranean sea including Italy, Greece, France, and Croatia with boats up to 70 feet long, and in a variety of sea conditions.
After moving to the United States in 2003, Captain Lorenzo completed the requirements for the United States Coast Guard (USCG).
For your safety he is also certified in Crowd and Crisis Management and Human Behavior, including the coast guard approved STCW safety course requested for foreign trips.
The experience and dedication to sailing are also reflected in Captain Lorenzo’s racing accomplishments:
- 4-Time Winner of the MORF Commodore Cup Chicago for the years 2003, 2005-2007 and second ranking for the year 2004.
- 4-Time Winner of Wednesday Night Race at Chicago’s Burnham Harbor for the years 2003, 2005-2007 and second ranking for the year 2004 with a total of 143 first, 23 second, and 6 third positions.
- 2nd Overall in 2007 for the Hook Race - from Racine, to Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin.
Captain Lorenzo is also a certified instructor for the American Sailing Association (ASA) for the following ASA levels:
- 101 BKB Basic Keel Boat
- 103 BCC Basic Coastal Cruising
- 104 BBC Bareboat Chartering
- 105 CON Coastal Navigation
- 218 DEI Docking Endorsement
